It took place at the Tuncurry dog park over the weekend of Saturday October 31 and Sunday November 1.
The event was the brainchild of local Brett Wilson. Brett had wanted to create an event that was a weekend of “sharing, fly fishing and good times”.
All were welcome to attend, from novice to experts – and they did, from all over Australia.
“We had 70 odd participants,” said Brett on his Facebook page.
“What made this event were the people who came, fished, learnt, offered help and traveled from Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and everywhere in between to be there and made it what it was.
“To see six people who had never caught a fish on fly and some not even cast a rod and then get fish was in itself proof the Muster was a success.”
Brett recruited the expertise of fly fisherman Max Frost and Brian Henderson to help as official instructors.
According to Brian, who is a certified and world renowned in Flyfishing the event was “fantastic” and it unearthed a lot of likeminded people locally and nationally.
Brian believes there is a “fairly strong local group” interested in Flyfishing. However he thinks the muster was able to get everyone together, where they could shares ideas, learn from each other and realise there is more people near them that are also interested in Flyfishing.
Brian moved to Pacific Palms from the Snowy Mountains, where he and his wife, Anne, had run the Jindabyne Fishing School. According to Brian the Great Lakes area offers pristine flyfishing conditions for its amount of flat land, good variety of fish and clear water ways.
The team behind the Forster Fly Muster are hoping to make it an annual event.
