“I felt very proud of my achievements,” McKay said.
“This year was one of the hardest rallies, we really pushed our vehicles.
“Some of the roads in the first two or three days we could only do 20km/h.
This year the Kidney Kar Rally took about 60 vehicles, some with passengers and support teams, from Alice Springs to Moama on the NSW Victoria boarder.
The roads were both rocky and sandy and eventually McKay’s gear box filled with sand and a bearing collapsed.
The misfortune took McKay out of the top four, but a mechanic and former Kindey Kar Rally competitor he knew in Broken Hill helped him back on the track.
While McKay himself does not suffer from kidney problems, he said it was a wide-spread issue and a cause worth supporting.
He thanked all the local businesses that donated and helped him with fundraising.
