For Kian, from Pacific Palms, his most exciting moment with a camera was photographing a white pointer earlier this year while fishing off Cellito Beach.
He took the photo underwater while hanging off the edge of the boat as his friend held him by the shirt.
While photographing the shark definitely excited him and the photo made the cover of the Great Lakes Advocate, he prefers shooting close ups and underwater shots of waves.
“The waves twist, warp and form vortexes under water, that’s what lures me,” Kian said.
“I’ve been surfing and diving for years, so to be able to photograph what I love is thrilling.”
Dave shares a similar passion for shooting waves.
He recently pulled on his wetsuit, booties and gloves to shoot in Tasmania.
“My fingers felt like they were going to snap off,” he said.
Dave said he went there to chase Tasmania’s pure white sand beaches.
The pair met while photographing at Blueys Beach a few years ago.
Dave, from Newcastle, tries to get to the Great Lakes as much as possible.
“You get those deep blues that you don’t get anywhere else. It really is God’s country,” he said.
The pair will have an exhibition of their ocean and landscape shots at Mobys Beachside Retreat on Saturday from 5pm.
