A nine goal thriller at Boronia Park saw Port Saints come away with a 5-4 win and a spot in the grand final against the Camden Haven Redbacks.
Wallis Lake uncharacteristically started the match a little nervous letting Port Saints control the game in the opening 10 minutes.
Saints applied a lot of early pressure on Wallis Lake’s goal with the home team conceding several corners in the early stages.
The opening goal came from one of these corners when the ball was cleared to a Saints player who played the ball back into the box.
The ball bounced through the box untouched by clearance and shot attempts from both sides.
The miss-kicked ball caught goalkeeper Tynan Leahy off guard and the ball bounced freely into Wallis Lake’s goal.
Going a goal down early has become a common occurrence for Wallis Lake over the last month and the boys knew the game is far from over.
Wallis Lake settled midway through the half and looked the better team going into the break.
Roche, Wynter and Dowie in the middle of the park began to control the game and play some of the football Wallis Lake supporters like to see.
Peter Master-Antonio's work-rate up front was tireless and the striker was rewarded with an equalizer before the break.
Some smart foot work in the box saw Master-Antonio shake his marker and give the striker time to thump a shot off giving the Saints keeper no chance.
Both teams had their chances to take the lead before the break but strong defence from Debrinket and Ohma kept the score level at 1-1.
The second half started evenly with both sides playing attractive attacking football.
The Saints opened the second half scoring when a Saints wide attacker found space to fire off a shot from the top of the box.
The average strike was hit firm but low at Leahy.
Leahy went to ground to make the save but landed on the ball and it squeezed under his ribs and popped into the goal.
But the Saints' lead was short lived as Wallis Lake leveled up in a matter of minutes.
Good build up play through the midfield left Dowie with space on halfway.
Striker Roan Whiteman made a clever run past his man and Dowie slid the ball to his feet.
Whiteman shrugged his man off the ball pulling the ball onto his left foot and slid it past the Saints keeper. Saints took the lead again when goal keeper Leahy pounced on a loose ball in the box slightly fumbling.
As he regathered the ball a Saints attacker charged through and toe poked the ball from Leahy’s hands and into the goal.
Saints increased their lead shortly after when a through-ball left Leahy in two minds. Both keeper and attacker met the ball at the same time but the Saints player managed to make contact with the ball and loft a chip over Leahy and into the goals.
The Saints' celebration that followed was of world cup winning proportions but was quickly silenced as Whiteman scored off the next kickoff.
Whiteman took the ball from the kickoff and dribbled through all 10 Saints players to slot the ball home and pull the score back to 4-3.
It was Saints' turn to score next with a well timed header from a corner kick to get back their two goal buffer.
The speed of the game started to show as subs were flowing quickly seeing Mansour, Morgan, Richardson and Cheers were all inserted into the game.
Substitute Kaine Morgan got himself on the score board with the big reserve grader scoring a fantastic header from a free kick.
With the score at 5-4 and ten minutes left to play Wallis Lake pushed for the equalizing goal.
Wallis Lake created chance after chance but could not find the net.
In the dying minutes Tom Richardson had the best chance with his shot shaving the post, just missing wide.
It is a tough day on the football pitch when you can score four goals and still lose.
