Matthew John Deegan, 37, of Punnul Street, appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm stemming from an accident on the Lakes Way on July 29.
Police allege Mr Deegan was driving dangerously when his white Holden Commodore and a motorcycle collided about4.30pm, court documents state. It’s also alleged Mr Deegan failed to stop after the crash despite knowing the motorcyclist would have been seriously injured.
Mr Deegan was arrested two days after the accident after officers attached to the Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit received a tip-off from a member of the public. A condition of his bail is that he not drive a motor vehicle.
The matter was adjourned until October 15.
