Forster Tuncurry defeated Wingham 30-28 in an aggressive match at the Wingham Sporting Complex on the weekend.
The teams were fighting for the right to host the minor semi-final, with competition favourites the Port Sharks having already wrapped up the minor premiership. The Wauchope Blues and Port Breakers finished second and third respectively and will play the major semi-final on Sunday.
Forster Tuncurry will also feature in the reserve grade match on Saturday taking on the Old Bar Pirates, after finishing fifth in the table.
Matt Manning’s men have found some form of late, as they have settled into some attacking rhythm. Saturday’s match was a close encounter against Wingham, the score remaining even till Wingham scored on the bell for a 24-18 win.
Wauchope clinched the reserve grade minor premiership, defeating rivals Port Sharks on Saturday.
The under 18s finished the regular season in third spot. They had a few scares before settling into their game against Wingham before prevailing 46-14. Coach Tom Freeman will take his contingent of young Hawks up the Pacific Highway to Wauchope’s Lank Bain Complex, where they will meet the Port Sharks in the major semi on Sunday. Under 18s minor premiership was taken out by the Wauchope Blues.
The Hawks league tag side warmed up for the semi-final series with a polished display, dispatching their Wingham opponents 44-4. Coaches Kylie Hilder and Ash Alcorn have guided their young side to the minor premiership and will have the first weekend off.
The minor semi-finals on Saturday at Harry Elliott will see the League Tag kicking off the day’s proceedings at 10.55 as the Port Sharks take on the Wauchope Blues. Port Breakers will meet Old Bar in the under 18s at 12.05 before the Hawks play Old Bar at 1.25 in the reserve grade clash.
First grade will take the field at 3pm against Wingham in what should be a do or die battle against their old adversaries. Troy Hilder’s troops are hoping for a large, vocal crowd to try and take every advantage the home ground advantage offers.
Sunday’s major semi finals will be held at Wauchope. The Breakers versus Taree Bulls League Tag sides kick off at 10.55 before the under 18s Hawks and Sharks play at 12.05.
Reserve grade at 1.30 will feature the Port Sharks and Wingham, while the first grade clash at 3pm will feature the Wauchope Blues and the Port City Breakers.
