A narrow two point win for the ladies league tag side was the only real high point of the day. This was the second win of the week for Kylie Hilder and Ash Alcorn’s side, having beaten the Old Bar Ladies 22-10 in a deferred game on Wednesday night in Wingham.
The Hawks first grade side got off to a slow start against the undefeated Port Sharks, being 10 points down before the crowd had taken their seats. They extended their lead to 16 points before fullback Dan Lawton continued his recent try scoring run when he touched down under the posts to leave the Sharks leading 16-6 at the break.
The match, which had flared up a few times in the first half, turned ugly when several players were sin binned and Hawks centre, Chris Simon sent from the field. The Port side took full advantage of the extra men and took out the match 42-12 against the tiring Hawks outfit.
The under 18s were dealt a 24-12 loss to the Sharks in an entertaining affair, both the sides on display showed that they will be thereabouts when the whips are cracking during the finals series.
The inconsistent reserve grade side went down 32-12 and will need to find some cohesion as they challenge for a semi finals berth.
Next weekend sees the Hawks play their final home game of the season, barring any semi final games, against the struggling Old Bar side. Sunday’s games kick off with the League Tag at 11.30am with the first grade encounter set down for 3pm.
