The team is full of confidence after completing two rounds of the NSW IRB Premiership.
The season so far has been a bit disrupted with high seas causing the cancellation and change in dates of two rounds - safety first.
In the last of the premiership rounds at Kiama Downs in some challenging surf, the team finished the day with eight out of a possible 10 finals and came away in sixth position. It was a great effort for a small team of 10 competitors.
At the State Championships this weekend, 2015 IRB Premiership Champions Kiama Downs Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) should be the team to beat on current form.
On the other hand Caves Beach SLSC has won 10 state championships in the past and the club has a formidable record at state level, winning every NSW Championships held since 2001 except for 2011 when they finished second to South Maroubra SLSC and of course 2014 where Kiama Downs took the title.
A number of other teams are all strong chances at taking any number of medals including Catherine Hill Bay, Terrigal, North Cronulla, Queenscliff or Thirroul.
The Forster team, if all goes well, is a real chance to reach the semi-finals in most divisions and then it is just who makes the best of the conditions from there.
Forster club captain Simon Lee is looking forward to the weekend’s competition.
“All the young members of the team have really improved during the season and, for such a small team, other clubs are amazed at the number of semi-finals and finals that we have made during the premiership. All we can do is our best,” he said.
“We will be competing in 15 of the 16 race categories and we welcome new competitors to our team Izaak Solomon, Kylie Nicholson and Ruby Jones and joining us from Stockton SLSC Victoria Naude, Brendon Ryman and Nic Owen, who have all improved their skills so far this season.
“A loss for the team is Keely Quinn who is currently out injured with a broken ankle, non-IRB related.”
A big thank you in advance to all the officials that make the event a success and we are sure to see some of our local officials down at the beach making for an efficiently run event.
Mollymook community groups apart from the surf club always come together to make it a great few days.
