More than 110 people attended the kindergarten to Year 6 assembly, which showcased class presentations ranging from bucket percussion to poems and songs.
The time afforded to classroom practice was evident as classes took the stage displaying their excellent skills in performance.
The wonders of technology were on show with an online story about grandmas and a joint sing-a-long with an Australian favourite, ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’.
Grandparents, friends and their children then moved into the middle school building which had been beautifully decorated with displays of students’ work, all created around a grandparent and friends theme. Children led Nan and Pop to their class displays and proudly showed off their own works of art.
It was quite moving to see how carefully the grandparents and friends took those works of art and tucked them under their arms as a fond memory of their special day.
Matt Hudson had set up a photography booth, and worked tirelessly to ensure each family captured a memory of the day, which will be both printed and sent home digitally to each family.
Elizabeth Smith and her very talented Year 11 class provided morning tea, with delicious sandwiches and freshly baked scones with jam and cream. Her students, in full hospitality uniform, were excellent role models for the younger ones.
The day was planned around the 50th anniversary of the opening of the J Block classrooms and to celebrate there was a commemorative tree planting ceremony in the front tropical garden. A hardy white flowering magnolia was planted with pomp and ceremony, inviting all past students of Bulahdelah Central School and other guests to throw a handful of dirt into our magnolia garden.
It was special to have so many contributors, including Saxyn and Jade Pickett’s family of four BCS generations in attendance.
