Council has publicly stated it would like to build a new $6 million library as part of a new civic precinct development on the old Forster primary school site on the corner of Lake and West Streets.
Mr Jones has written a 'Frequently Asked Questions' article on council's website to state the case for a new library.
"I understand that some people may not have a clear understanding of why we need a new library. This issue has come up in the community survey we’re currently conducting. Rather than leave the matter unanswered and unclear I wanted to give the public the answers to all their questions so they can see why council has made the new library such a priority", said Mr Jones.
In the article, Mr Jones explains that the popularity of libraries is increasing and that the local population deserves a bigger facility with better parking.
"The last four years have been the busiest ever in Forster Library. A library is a vital community hub, and our current library is half the size it should be for our population size", said Mr Jones.
One of the major concerns about the current library is the lack of parking it offers. It is also unsuitable for expansion.
Council plans to use the old library site as an extension of its chambers when a new library is built.
"At the moment our office space is inadequate, with some Council staff occupying a demountable building. The use of the current library for office space will provide an economical solution to this issue," council’s director of corporate and community development, Mr Steve Embry said,
