WET weather notwithstanding, the sight of churned up mud, ripped grass, and tyre tracks at the entrance to Forster Tuncurry’s racecourse late Sunday afternoon was, for racecourse volunteer Adrian Wood, a disappointing sight.

Mr Wood’s home backs onto the racecourse, and so when he heard the all too familiar sound of cars doing burn outs and doughnuts close to his backyard, he was prompted to investigate. He said police are currently looking into the incident, but Mr Wood said it is not the first time young drivers have damaged racecourse grounds.
“Another time the drivers were younger, so the school was able to deal with the matter. But this time they are older.
One of many volunteers helping keep the racecourse up to scratch for race meets and accreditation, Mr Wood is disheartened to see all of their hard work “stuffed up” by these drivers.
The racecourses’ committee is now considering putting in surveillance cameras on site, and are prepared to follow incidences such as this latest one through to court if required.
“Really, we would like them to come in, fix up the damage done, and show some remorse. Otherwise it’s extra work that we, as volunteers, just shouldn’t need to do.”
