Ben Gould and his wife Naomi were able to use the profits of the campaign, which kicked off at Christmas, to raise a deposit for the 50-acre vineyard in Quindalup, where he'll be able to source enough grapes for his organic range of wines, which are gaining popularity in the south west.

The up-and-coming winemaker's long-term goal to make the ultimate organic wine came closer to reality in May last year when online wine retailer Naked Wines recognised his potential and partnered with him after 18,556 "Angels" signed with the online retailer.

The "Angel" project involves subscribers to pay $40 a month into their Naked Wines account. From there, they receive discounts on products made by independent winemakers recruited to the retailer.

For Mr Gould, this crowdfunding helped his family purchase the vineyard, which he now hopes will be fully organic in time for the 2018 Blindside vintage.

"Over the last six years we have watched our business grow from outside the borders of our home vineyard," he said in reference to buying grapes off organic growers in the region.

"The Blind Corner wines have always been from our home block [Wilyabrup], and the Blindside wines from other great vineyards in the area.

"As we have honed our craft over the years, we came to realise that organic was the way we wanted to go with everything, not just our home block."

Mr Gould hopes that every wine they produce will be fully certified organic by vintage 2018.

"So it's looking like we will be moving our family into a caravan later in the year to save money whilst we get stuck in," he joked.

Mr Gould has 15 wine vintages under his belt and was named in Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine as the "best of the best" for 2011.

He started in the wine industry after his father bought a vineyard and asked Mr Gould if he could give him a hand. The son obliged, fell in love with winemaking, studied and now has his own vineyard and a vision that seems to resonate with wine lovers in the west.
