The cancellation is due to damage done by the recent severe storms.
"It was hoped that the water and trees on the trails would have cleared, but this has not been possible. Any monies already paid for entries will be refunded and we look forward to increased numbers and better weather for next year’s Fun Run," explained Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre secretary Deidre Hall.
EARLIER THIS WEEK:
ENTRIES have been pouring in for this year’s Wallaroo state forest fun run on Sunday, May 17.
Hosted by the Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre, the event, which has been running for more than 30 years, attracts hundreds of athletes of all ages and levels.
Participants can compete in any of three runs through a tranquil forest setting, the 10 km run at 10am, the 6km at noon and the 2km run at 1.30pm.
“This annual event is popular and unique throughout the fun run community because it takes competitors along fire trails, through the tranquil Wallaroo State Forest setting,” said organiser Deidre Hall.
“School students are again encouraged to enter teams of four for the 2km school challenge. The fastest team will receive a trophy for the school and individual medals for the runners.
“Competitors are expected to come from as far as Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Port Macquarie, and runners from four to 74 years are welcome to join in the fun.”
Entry fees: $15 adult, $10 under 16 and $40 family. Free Wallaroo fun run singlet to first 40 entries before May 15.
The course is located on the Pacific Highway - 10km north of Raymond Terrace with the entrance at Nine Mile Creek Rd at the overhead electronic traffic sign, just south of Medowie Rd.
Entries will be accepted up to 30 minutes before each run or go to raymondterraceathletics.com.au
