After finishing in third in the Groms division at event one in Port Stephens in March, Rodgers managed to nab third place in event two on the weekend.
The placings resulted in a second place overall finish for Rodgers who has now qualified for the NSW Team for the Australian Surf Festival.
Tuncurry’s Josh Smith, who placed fifth in Port Stephens, narrowly missed out on a spot at nationals after placing third in the open drop knee event. Smith received an overall place of fifth on the leaderboard.
Other local riders who progressed through some of their heats but were knocked out were Grant Gardner, Jacob Dunn, Flynn Dunn and Drew Sheedy.
The two-day event, hosted by Surfing NSW, was held at Kiama Surf Beach in waves ranging from four to six foot between May 1 to 3.
Total points from Kiama and Port Stephens were tallied and used to select the NRMA NSW Team to represent the state at the 2015 Australian Surf Festival. The event will see over 500 competitors from around the nation travel to Coffs Harbour for a shot at being crowned an Australian Champion. The event will run from July 31 to August 17
