THE tenth annual King of the Krater competition was a roaring success with 52 skaters, bikers and scooter riders battling it out at Tuncurry Skatepark on Saturday.
The Youth Week event attracted predominately local entrants as well as those from Newcastle, Taree, Port Macquarie, the Gold Coast and even one competitor from England.
Homebase Services’ youth events coordinator Abbey Engel said competitors involved themselves with organising the event, judging and MCing.
She said despite some wet weather on Friday, around 300 spectators turned up to check out some of the action.
“It had rained overnight and was pretty cloudy in the morning on Saturday so we were a bit worried but it ended up being good weather. We were really lucky to have missed all the rain,” she said.
“It was great to see so many people supporting the event too - it was such an awesome atmosphere. Competitor numbers were also up on last year.”
Organisers will donate a portion of funds from the event to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
Volunteer and graffiti buster Ted Bickford praised local and visiting youths for their good behaviour on Saturday and for making it one of the best events on record.
Local businesses donated prizes for the event including Club Forster which donated $2000 towards the running costs.
