The white themed ball was held at the newly renovated Cape Hawke Surf Life Saving Club on Saturday March 14.
Proceeds from the ball will go towards financing a humanitarian trip for ten local girls from Great Lakes College to the Vung Tau Orphanage in southern Vietnam. A fundraising tally from the ball has not yet been finalised.
The girls, aged 13 to 17, will visit the orphanage to donate funds and pass on the skills they’ve learned in an arts based self-esteem building program called Heart to Heart.
Program founder Donna Rankin said the night was an overwhelming success.
“I have come to realise that Heart to Heart is not only about changing the lives of our young people or changing the lives of children in an orphanage in Vietnam, it is about giving, it is about community and it is about love,” Mrs Rankin said.
“Our amazing community came together once again to support each other.
“This year’s funds will also be used to renovate the kitchen at the orphanage school. It is hoped that the kitchen can become a training facility for the older children so that they will have a vocation when leaving school.”
The event was organised by local swimming group, the Turtles and included entertainment by the band Indigo as well as Mrs Rankin’s daughter Holly.
