The event was held in Jindabyne on February 14 and 15. Wallis Spirit members Brian Cotterill, Simone Kirk and Pat Powell, braved the cold, wet and windy conditions on Lake Jindabyne for the 2km race on the Saturday.
Brian then joined members from the Merimbula Sapphire Dragons Club for the men’s race and Pat and Simone joined members from the Bidgee Dragons from Wagga Wagga for the women’s. Despite not placing in these events, the trio gained valuable experience.
On Sunday, Wallis Spirit members Simone Kirk, Elaine Charker and Pat Powell teamed up with the Bidgee Dragons for the 200m sprints while Lee Newell joined members from the Albury Wodonga Warriors in the Sports Women’s event. Unfortunately, the teams didn’t have any success against the youthful competition.
The four Wallis Spirit ladies then joined the Bidgee Dragons to contest the Masters Women’s category - one of 11 crews in this event. They made the final and placed third to bring home a bronze medal - the club’s very first medal in a sprint event.
Wallis Spirit Dragons members are now in training for the Urunga Regatta in May.
