A WorkCover investigation was instigated after the incident on January 13 (Boy thrown from carnival ride).

The 10-year-old Nabiac boy fell from the Devil’s Dance ride which was set up as part of the annual Pink’s Family Carnival at John Wright Park.

The boy was strapped into the ride but not long after it commenced the harness malfunctioned and he fell from his seat. He managed to grab hold of a section of the ride and the operator attempted to catch him but was unable to break his fall. The boy suffered bruising but no major injuries.

The WorkCover NSW investigation has now concluded.

WorkCover issued a prohibition notice to the amusement device owner, preventing use of the ride until it had been made safe. The device owner has now modified the device’s restraint system to ensure it is safe. 

WorkCover also conducted an audit of all amusement devices at the event. 

A number of maintenance issues were identified during the audit, some of which were immediately addressed by device operators. 

Other issues will be monitored during ongoing scheduled maintenance. No device was prohibited from operating as a result of the audit.
