POLICE attempted to talk a woman down from rocks at Bennetts Head on Monday morning (March 2) at around 8.45am.

Unfortunately they were not able to call the 55-year-old away from the edge and at approximately 10.30 the Westpac rescue chopper had to be called in to winch her off the rocks below. She was on rocks between the Bennetts Head lookout and The Tanks.
A doctor and a paramedic were winched on to the rocks to stabilise her and she was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
An independent critical-incident team will investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.
That investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command.
A Westpac spokesperson said the woman has serious head and spinal injuries.
