WORKS to fix one of Forster’s dangerous black spots will start this week, with $100,000 in Australian Government funding being used to upgrade the intersection of Head Street and West Street.

Federal Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin said the intersection was a serious black spot in Forster that needed urgent attention.
“The safety of motorists is paramount, and sadly we have seen six accidents happen at this intersection, including one fatal crash and three injury crashes, in the five years to June 2012,” Mr Baldwin said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the funds are coming from the Government’s $500 million Black Spot Program.
“Black Spot projects target dangerous roads to save lives and reduce road trauma, and we have extended the programme through to at least 2019 as a part of our commitment to reduce road accidents,” Mr Truss said.
All of these accidents involved vehicles turning out of West Street.
Mr Baldwin said the upgrade will include the installation of a concrete median island and signage on both sides of West Street at the intersection, reducing the risk of accidents.
Additional works on the existing narrow concrete median and linemarking on Head Street will increase lane widths for vehicles turning right from Head Street into West Street.
Works are expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting, with Head Street and West Street remaining open to traffic during the work.
Residents and business owners will be notified of any changed traffic conditions before work starts.
