Her achievements were recognised this week when she was named the Great Lakes Sportsperson of the Year at the Australia Day awards ceremony at Club Forster.
Amber, who has low vision, has studied to become an assistant coach and was voted Manning Great Lakes RDA’s Disabled Rider of the Year. In 2013, she won the State Rider Dressage competition and came second in 2014.
She also recently competed in a jumping contest with the assistance of a sighted person who prompted her when to jump or turn whilst she was on a galloping horse. Amber came fifth in the competition.
The Forster horse rider was humbled by the accolade and said the RDA has helped her continue in a sport she is so passionate about.
“It’s just an honour,” she said of the award.
“I love riding horses. I can’t see long distances so RDA gives me that opportunity to continue riding horses. I also get to work with people that have different disabilities. It makes you appreciate what you have.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Manning Great Lakes RDA especially senior coach Maureen Turner and Noel Moore who took me through the assistant coach certificate.”
