Great Lakes College students Markala Johnson and Ashlee McCallum have been selected to be part of the concert at Port Macquarie’s Glasshouse theatre which showcases the talents of students who excelled in the 2014 High School Certificate Music exams.
Markala, who has been singing for the past six years, will bring her vocal talents to the concert. She will be accompanied on stage with music teacher Vincent Jensen who will play the piano and fellow students Arlo Ockerby on guitar and Adam Kilpatrick on the drums.
“I love singing, it’s something I enjoy and I hope to have a career in it one day,” she said.
She is currently in the process of applying for a bachelor of music at The University of Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Ashlee, who received a band six and 94 out of 100 for music in the HSC, will be playing the recorder. She too has been playing the instrument since she was six-years-old. For the performance she will be accompanied by Mr Jensen also.
“It’s a great opportunity to be part of. I’m looking forward to it,” she said of the concert.
The girls will join performers from Armidale, Camden Haven, Grafton, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree and Wingham on stage.
Bravissimo Concert coordinator Leanne Johnson said it was a wonderful accolade for the students as well as their hard working music teachers to attain such excellent HSC results.
The Bravissimo 2015 concert is at Port Macquarie’s Glasshouse on February 11. Tickets for the one-off matinee performance are on sale (adults $25, concession $15 and child $15) from the Glasshouse. Phone 6581 8888 for more information.
