Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command Inspector John Sullivan said three people were arrested in Forster on Australia Day for drink driving and drug offences.
“Police arrested two people for high range and special range drink driving as well as a Forster man in his 30’s for drug possession. The man was charged after police searched his car and located methylamphetamine,” he said.
“Due to the inclement weather police had a greatly reduced presence of partygoers. The weather seemed to put a bit of a dampener on celebrations. There wasn’t really any anti-social behaviour on the day, most people drank responsibly and looked at having a plan to get home.
“Overall police were very happy with how crowds were.”
In relation to a party at the northern end of One Mile Beach on Monday, Mr Sullivan said police had not been made aware of a pile of rubbish that partygoers had left dumped on the beach which included lounges, chairs, bottles, flags and a trampoline.
Great Lakes Council manager of waste, health and regulatory services John Cavanagh said it was the second year in a row partygoers had inconveniently left rubbish behind after Australia Day.
“Last year they left all the rubbish around the park area at One Mile right next to the bins,” he said.
“Whether it is the same people or not it is hard to tell.”
Mr Cavanagh said rangers had taken 4WDs onto the beach yesterday to remove all of the rubbish.
