Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said the funding will go into Tuncurry’s new $4.67 million resource recovery park, which will include a waste transfer station to maximise recovery of materials such as household recyclables, scrap metal and building materials.
“This new facility will have a recycling capacity of 7000 tonnes per year which will be of great benefit to our local community and the environment.”
The project is part of the NSW Government’s efforts to modernise waste and recycling infrastructure and boost the state’s capacity to divert 75 per cent of all waste from landfill by 2021.
Environment Minister Rob Stokes said the project was one of seven to be allocated funding under round one of the Waste Less Recycle More Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure Program.
The second round of the Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure program is currently open for applications for grants up to $10 million.
