Forster Films organisers are on the lookout for local actors under the age of 18 to feature in a local film about anti-violence. Actors will need to be available throughout January for filming. Experience is not essential.
Skateboarders are needed for scenes of skateboarding at Tuncurry Skate Park as well as amateur filmmakers who have a Go Pro, drone or FCPX.
Recorded music is also needed for the movie’s soundtrack and action scenes.
The film will follow the life of a young woman who discovers a non-violent way of dealing with aggression which she shares with her younger brother who is being bullied at school.
The philosophy leads her brother to a richer life. All is going well until one afternoon he is confronted with the choice of whether or not to save a bully’s life.
The movie will be predominately filmed at Tuncurry Skate Park, Pacific Palms Surf Lifesaving Club and at a local school campus.
Forster Films director Greg Smith said the inspiration to create the film came from local man Robert Scott who is in a coma in Sydney after he was brutally punched in a residential street in the US.
Mr Smith said he initially offered to screen the film as part of the Forster Film Festival at Pacific Palms Surf Life Saving Club – where Robert Scott was a member.
“I offered to donate the door takings to Rob Scott’s parents to help cover his medical costs but they suggested that the money instead be spent raising awareness of the harm done by a one punch attack,” he said.
“We see this film as a positive and worthwhile endeavour.
“When it comes to misinformation about punches, film media has a lot to answer for. A key component of many great action movies is an awesome fight scene. In reality, one punch can destroy a lot of lives.
“We are following Rob Scott’s parents’ suggestion, as directed by Pacific Palms Surf Life Saving Club, to create a short film that raises student awareness of the harm that can be done by one punch and by presenting non-violent ways of handling aggression.”
Auditions will be taking place at the Catholic Church Hall at 33 Lake Street Forster this Saturday (December 20) from 11.30am to 1pm.
