Held in mild conditions, more than 20 boats competed in the event from the likes of Sydney’s North Bondi to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast
The men’s crew of Mick Yarad, Jason Berg, Luke Felsch and Matt Wood swept by David Rankin won the final on Saturday and finished second on Sunday while the ladies crew of Raelene Carmichael, Annette Sanders, Anne Curtis, and Leeanne Irving swept by David Rankin placed first on Saturday and second on Sunday.
The next round of the competition will be held at Pacific Palms on the weekend of December 13.
A presentation was also made to Layne Grant who has been appointed as junior female captain for the year. Layne has been a member since 2008 and has completed all the competencies through the nippers program and is now undertaking her Surf Rescue Certificate which will allow her to commence patrolling at One Mile Beach.
Twenty seven club members are currently undertaking training to gain their Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate. All candidates will be assessed on Sunday November 30 which will then make them eligible to join the patrol roster at Cape Hawke Surf Club.
