Sharyn Munro was charged after she had locked herself on to a gate at a coal seam gas site in Gloucester.

Officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command were called to the site around 7am today (Friday October 24) after report of protest activity.

They arrived to find a small group of protesters and Ms Munro who had locked herself to a gate.  It’s alleged the woman refused to unlock herself from the gate and was later issued with a field court attendance notice for obstructing traffic.

She’s expected to appear before Taree Local Court on Tuesday November 11.

FRIDAY: A GRANDMOTHER locked on to an AGL gate has called the Great Lakes Advocate to share her story.

Sharyn Munro, aged 66,  is secured to the gate by her neck with a metal D-shape lock and has been there since 7.30am this morning (Friday October 24).  She locked onto the gate after returning from Sydney to protest at the AGL general meeting.

She is attempting to block gas fracking workers at three entrances to the Gloucester wells.  She is the second grandmother to take such drastic action in a matter of days.

"I am a very law abiding grandma - I wouldn't even j-walk."

Sharyn has arthritis in her knees and while the lock is growing uncomfortable around her neck she says it is nothing compared to what the people of the area have been going through.

"It is irrelevant in relation to what residents in this area have been facing - marriage breakdowns, mental breakdowns...it's just unconscionable what's going on here."

Police have already spoken with Ms Monro to warn her that her action may lead to charges.

"The police were from Forster and they were very pleasant and polite."

 She is from Upper Lansdowne and has five grand-daughters.

"Three of them moved away from the Hunter to get away from the pollution but now this is happening."

Ms Munro is also the author of the book Rich Land Waste Land.

 “As I researched, I learned the dangers of coal seam gas projects. That's why I'm standing up for my community today."

This is the fourth day of peaceful protest by the residents of Gloucester.

Community members have blocked all three main entrances to the AGL coal seam gas fracking operation in Gloucester this morning.

“The beautiful Gloucester Valley is the last place on earth that should be fracked for a coal seam gas field,” Ms Munro said.

“Until honest and adequate information regarding the impacts on water and health is available, this AGL coal seam gas fracking project should be suspended."
