TWO members of the Forster Triathlon club competed at the Port Macquarie 70.3 Half Ironman on the weekend.
Life member Richard Sewell was well placed in his age group after the swim and bike but unfortunately twisted his ankle at one of the turnaround markers 4km into the run and was forced to withdraw.
Samuel Newman, competing in his second race of this distance, managed to better his previous best swim time by 10 minutes.
"Conditions were good for racing, except for the wind on the second lap of the bike leg," Newman said after the race.
Newman's times were 33:54 for a 1.9km swim, 3:01:53 for 90km bike ride and 2:02:53 for 21.1 km run giving him a total of 5:42:42.
The Forster Triathlon Club has its first aquathlon for the season this Sunday morning at the Bullring. The distances are a 200m swim and 2km run completed twice.
Then it is back to Forster Keys the weekend after that for a club race.
The weekend of November 8 and 9 is the Forster Challenge (see story above). Most of our members will be competing in various races over the weekend with shorter races on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.
We encourage locals to get out and support this great event that brings in so many people from out of town.
