Squash prodigy, Todd Riches received the 2014 Myall Lakes Junior Sports Person of the Year in recognition of his leadership skills and a dedication in pursuing his sporting ambitions.
The 15-year-old attends the Great Lakes College Forster campus and is the captain of the school’s squash team. He is currently the under 15 squash champion.
Todd recently returned from the National Squash Championships where he was the runner up in the under 17s competition.
Sporting all rounder, Kaspar Fiebig was named the winner of the 2014 Myall Lakes Sports Person of the Year.
The 17-year-old, who is in year 12 at Great Lakes College Tuncurry campus, is an avid canoeist and a member and captain of the Great Lakes Canoe Club. His main competitive sport is slalom canoeing.
Kaspar is a qualified slalom coach and enjoyed success in 2013 as the CHS Boys Champion.
He has competed in the Australian Open and Oceania Championships and is currently training for selection in the 2015 Junior World Cup in Brazil.
On top of this, Kaspar has been involved with local surf lifesaving and has competed at local, branch and state championships.
Kaspar is also involved in diving and has competed at regional, state and national levels and was the under 12 state champion in 2009.
In swimming, Kaspar competed at regional and state levels and was Zone Champion in the 17 plus age group in 2014. Kaspar was recognised for the award for having a thorough commitment to and enjoyment of sport which includes service back to the clubs where he was taught.
The awards took place in Taree on Saturday and were presented by NRMA deputy president Wendy Machin.
