The initiative is funded solely by the club. Jaime and his team are taking the youngsters through play activities that focus on skills needed to play the game. These activities are designed to improve the children’s hand-eye coordination, movement skills and concentration.
Two kinder classes had their sessions last Friday and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.
Of course, being allowed to keep the racquets they had been using and being presented with their unique club racquet covers was the highlight of the afternoon.
The racquets and covers had been especially ordered and designed by the club for these occasions.
This is the third year in which Forster Tennis Club has run this initiative. In 2012, 100 children from Forster Public School participated and in 2013, 120 children from Year 1 and Kindergarten Holy Name School received a racquet.
The club’s committee and coach plan many special activities for junior members.
Funds raised from Joker Surprise run by Forster Bowling Club on Wednesday evenings and manned by club volunteers are the main source of the revenue necessary to provide these activities.
All proceeds from the event go into the Junior Development Fund which allows the club to support junior development in our area.
