The work includes tree plantings, footpath construction for the disabled and elderly and making the already established Gallipoli Lone Pine a key feature of the facility.
To assist in completing the project the Forster-Tuncurry Returned Service League (RSL) Sub-Branch has received over $7,000 from the Centenary of Anzac Grants Program.
Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin was in Tuncurry recently to congratulate the Forster-Tuncurry Returned Service League (RSL) Sub-Branch.
“This project demonstrates what the program was designed for. A local community working to ensure that we pay appropriate tribute to the thousands of locals who answered the call to serve their nation and the hundreds who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Forster-Tuncurry RSL Sub-Branch President Frank Brady said the changes would take full advantage of the park’s space and will also feature a tribute to the seven Victoria Cross recipients from the Battle of Lone Pine, designed by the students from Great Lakes College.
“It is the RSL’s fervent hope that this memorial in the park will be a show piece and illustrate to the community the actions of our forefathers which contributed to our heritage – the spirit of Anzac,” Mr Brady said.
It is hoped a special rededication service for the Tuncurry site will be carried out in February next year, in the lead-up to the Anzac Day commemorations.
“The centenary of Anzac will be the most significant national period of commemoration in our nation’s history,” said Mr Baldwin.
