Mick’s son, Michael, contacted the Great Lakes Museum with details of the group photo which was taken at Broken Bay in 1956 at a national fitness camp where Mick was teacher in charge of staff.
Museum volunteers were also delighted to hear from Sonja Byrne who recognised her brother-in-law’s brother, Lenny Diett, pictured on the far right in the back row of the group photo. Lenny taught for many years at Lennox Head and also played first grade football for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
The details along with the photo will be uploaded to the clickHistory Great Lakes database of local history images. The online searchable database will be launched in November in a joint project between the Great Lakes Library and Great Lakes Museum.
This week’s mystery group photo appears to be taken at Black Head circa 1930. There are no names documented with the photo. If you recognise any of the faces or can identify the location, museum volunteers would love to hear from you. Visit them online at: www.clickhistorygreatlakes.wordpress.com or contact the Great Lakes Museum on 6554 6275 (Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 2pm).
