Traffic on the Forster Tuncurry Traffic Bridge was brought to a standstill in both directions on Wednesday as the driver of a truck towing the house carefully manoeuvred his way safely over the bridge.
Local resident Annette Moy who was standing on the balcony of her unit at the time captured some photos of the truck going over the bridge just after 7am on Wednesday.
“The shot shows how it had to take two swings at the final corner by reversing back to get a better swing,” she said. (see second photo in above gallery and more of the house being dismantled)
Former owners, Kylie and Dean Logan who swapped the citylife in Sydney for a sea change, bought the house and land 18 months ago with the intention of having the house demolished.
“We were going to knock it down to build – we always wanted to rebuild – but it was such a lovely home we lived in it when we arrived in Forster,” Kylie said.
“We later decided to put the house on Gumtree and we ended up having heaps of interest for it.
“Next thing we knew a man bought it and organised for it to be taken by truck to Armidale where he’s got a couple of blocks of land.
“We aren’t entirely sure but from what we know we think the house was built in the 1950s and was the first house on the street. It was apparently owned by a dairy farmer named Harry Underwood.”
The Logan’s are currently finalising plans to build a more modern home on the vacant block of land.
