Significant floods in the area occurred in 1884, 1927 and 1962. In 1927 a combination of heavy inland rain and high tides brought water levels estimated to be over the two meter mark.
This photo, taken near the Tuncurry ferry approach, shows a group of four unidentified women and a man possibly waiting for the vehicular ferry.
Flood waters at the south end of Manning Street can be seen in the background with Tokelau house and the Church of the Latter Day Saints behind.
Historic photographs of the area are currently being prepared and added to the clickHistory Great Lakes database due to be launched in November. The permanent online database of local history images will make over 1000 historic photographs from the Great Lakes Museums collection accessible to the community.
