Council’s manager of waste, health and regulatory services John Cavanagh said council has been successful with two of its grant applications in the first round of funding offers as part of the NSW Government’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
Under the Community Recycling Centre category, council will receive $189,904 to construct an all-weather drop off facility at Tuncurry Waste Management Centre.
“We have also been successful in securing $135,125,” Mr Cavanagh said.
“The funding is being used to extend the builders shop and construct an adjoining Men’s Shed where all second-hand building materials will be stored, repaired and resold.”
Council was also recently notified that it will be receiving further funding under the Better Waste Recycling Fund category.
“The grant is for $116,012 which is planned to go towards providing a second weighbridge at the Tuncurry Centre,” Mr Cavanagh said.
“The second weighbridge will allow us to weigh all vehicles as they enter and as they leave the facility. Users will then only be charged for the actual waste component of their load.”
As part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, the NSW Government will provide $465.7 million to local governments, businesses, industry and the community over the next five years to improve waste infrastructure and services in NSW.
