The duo started the Bald is Beautiful Fundraiser after their good friend Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer in March.
On Sunday August 3, Gillian and Sarah shaved all of their hair off at the Sweat Shed in Forster and managed to raise an incredible $12,046.75. All of the money will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Where do I start? The turnout was overwhelming,” Gillian said of the fundraiser.
“There were other people that shaved their heads and lots of hair being coloured. Lani Williams, a teacher from Pacific Palms, heard about the fundraiser and helped with raising money and also shaved her hair.
“The total amount raised was $11,836.75 but I just got an update on our fundraiser page and it’s over $12,000 now.”
Gillian and Sarah would like to thank the Great Lakes community and all of the local businesses that supported the fundraiser.
They hope the fundraiser will encourage more women across the region to have regular mammograms.
