Thankfully, those wintery days are soon behind us so now is the perfect time to shed those unwanted kilos and get fit for summer.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, Fitness2428’s annual Biggest Winner Ultimate Thinner Challenge will see hundreds of Great Lakes and Manning Valley residents team up with friends, work colleagues and family members for a 12 week weight loss challenge.
The first weigh in will be held on Friday August 29 before the challenge officially begins on Saturday August 30.
While losing weight and supporting each other, locals will also have the opportunity to go in the draw to win some cash prizes for themselves and their charities.
Over the past four years, more than $50,000 in cash and prizes has been won by individuals and teams and over $6000 has been donated to local charities.
This year, two charities are being supported by the challenge. They are Smile for Smiley and Curtis Landers: Road to Recovery.
Organiser Kerryann Hayes said this year’s event, like those previous, will hopefully be the start for many people on their road to long term improvements in their weight, fitness and better health management.
Over the years, she has witnessed many people struggle with weight gain due to wrong information.
“They are so often given outdated information, poor and misguided dietary advice and excessive exercise programs which they are unable to manage long term. It’s no wonder they give up frustrated and disheartened,” she said.
“The challenge is our small way of impacting on some of the factors that influence poor health in our community. Many local residents have used this as a starting point to really turn their health around.
“It’s great to see everyday people, making inroads to improve their life by managing their weight and fitness routine better. The challenge is a perfect place to start.”
The weight loss and fitness challenge attracts teams from across the region including the Manning with many teams coming back year after year to improve their results.
This year, the Manning Aquatic and Leisure Centre (YMCA) have joined the challenge to benefit the members of the Manning area.
There will be two categories in this year’s event: a two-person team and the usual four-person team.
The entry fee is $80 with $10 from each entry going to charity. Registrations are due in by next Wednesday (August 27) to Fitness2428 Level 1, 46/48 Wharf St Forster and at the Manning Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The official weigh in will be held at both locations at 6pm on Friday August 29. For more information visit Fitness2428’s website: www.fitness2428.com/loseweightwinbig
