The away fixture to Camden Haven is typically a difficult place to pick up points but on this occasion Wallis Lake were composed, focused and clinical.
First grade coach Herb Klemperer had several changes to make to his starting side with Ethan Perry, Peter Masterantonio, Reyne Black and Alex Omah all missing out due to injuries and suspensions.
Matt Dowie and Sam Ravell started for first grade down the left hand side.
From the kick off, Wallis Lake made their intentions clear by moving the ball around quickly and attacking the flanks with speed to catch out the Camden Haven side early on.
Striker Roan Whiteman was unlucky not to score in the opening five minutes when his shot from close range missed the target.
On the 10th minute, however, Whiteman made amends by setting up Mitch Yarnold who opened the scoring with a nicely placed shot into the bottom corner of the goal.
The home side had little time to recover before a break away by Yarnold on halfway had the defence back-peddling again with Yarnold setting up Whiteman one-on-one with the Redbacks goal keeper.
Whiteman’s composure in front of goal saw the ball slotted in to the back of the net and Wallis Lake went in to half time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Klemperer praised the determination of his players and asked them to maintain the intensity until the final whistle.
The away side came out of half time and continued to dominate possession while the backline of Paul Chipperfield, Beau Wynter, Luke Debrincat and Sam Ravell gave Camden Haven little attacking opportunities.
The Redbacks defence was struggling to contain the attack up front from Wallis Lake and the footwork of Whiteman and speed of Yarnold proved too much as the pair scored two more goals early in the second half.
Whiteman set up Yarnold for his fifth goal of the season before breaking away to find himself one-on-one again, this time slotting the ball between the goal keepers legs for his fourteenth goal of the season.
When Yarnold was fouled in the box at the other end and the referee awarded a penalty, Wallis Lake’s goal keeper Adam Salt put up his hand to take the spot kick.
Salt was confident and hit the ball well however his shot missed the target and the ball sailed over the crossbar.
Wallis Lake finished the match positively and came away with a 4-0 win.
Port United lost at home 2-1 to the Macleay Valley Rangers which means Wallis Lake now sit on top of the ladder with a four point lead over Port.
Wallis Lake will play host to Port United this Saturday at Boronia Park in the final round.
The reserve grade side suffered a shock defeat for their first loss of the season with a depleted side due to injuries and first grade commitments.
Camden Haven managed to hold on for a 3-2 win. Wallis Lake sit equal first with Port United to setup a clash for the Minor Premiership this Saturday at home. Games kick off at 1.15pm and 3pm.
