A presentation evening was held on Saturday, July 26 to mark the conclusion of an excellent year for Great Lakes Sailing Club.
The presentation was hosted by Matt Coombe of Amaroo Cruises who provided a twilight cruise around Wallis Lake.
In the senior trophies, Caleb and Ethan White took the majority of series wins on their Hobie 16.
Craig Kneebone and Matt Coombe also had a strong season on their Nacra 5.8. One of the highlights this season was the involvement of Rotary exchange student Amelie Dauwel who sailed regularly and competed well with Steve Sharp on his Nacra 5.8 catamaran.
Another consistent sailor over the season who posted a good season point score was Dave Morgan sailing his Capricorn formula 18.
To complement the catamaran racing and Junior Open BIC dinghies, Great Lakes Sailing Club introduced a laser fleet two years ago which has steadily grown under the guidance and mentoring of John Basden.
In the season point score, John was narrowly beaten by new member Bill Stokes. The involvement of Bill has been a huge boost due to his past history of competitive sailing at the highest international level.
With fleet numbers steadily growing, members will enjoy another huge season in 2014/15 with 20 to 25 boats racing regularly each Sunday.
The club is also set to host the annual Wildcat Regatta on the October long weekend, the NSW Hobie Cat State Titles in the last weekend of November and the Booti Booti Cup all boats regatta in February.
