Given this scenario the girls were up against maintaining their two-year unbeaten record. All the girls stepped up and played well. A short lull in concentration midway through the game had coach Hilder asking for more effort which the girls responded to.
Some classy tries were scored with Mel Finlayson 2, Ash Germyn 1, Ash Alcorn 1, Brittany Paulson 1 and Emma Connors 1 helping set up a convincing 32 -4 win.
Under 18s
THE Under 18s took on Port City Breakers determined to maintain their position on the table. Coach Jennings used the opportunity due to injury and unavailability again gave Matthew Koch and Harry King an opportunity which they made the most of.
This was a very good performance by the young Hawkies who scored consistently throughout the game. Hayden Dunk who has improved with every match scored a hatrick whilst Louise Ansell, Brent Mason, Liam Simon and Jackson Pearce also crossed the stripe.
Jackson also converted four goals to give the Hawks a convincing 36-0 win.
Reserve Grade
RESERVE Grade buoyed by the classy performance of the girls and young Hawks got out of the blocks early and raced to an 18-0 lead with Marlon Wiltshire scoring three and Jake Bolt one to have the crowd a buzz with the thought of the Reggies finally looking the goods.
A try with seconds remaining in the first half and three minutes after half time by Port had coach Manning pulling out what hair he had.
Another Breakers try six minutes later and the one that got away sign was coming up again.
Fatigue set in for the Hawks and the lack of training started to show on some.
In the 27th minute Port took the lead which was never threatened to leave the final score 22-18 to the Breakers.
