Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command inspector John Sullivan said the grass fire, which is believed to have occurred some time after 1pm today, (July 18) has since been contained.
"Police and rural fire brigades attended the property where a large grass fire has broken out," Inspector Sullivan said.
"Southbound traffic on the Pacific Highway was affected for approximately 10 minutes.
"Fire crews have managed to contain the fire to that property and it has been extinguished. Police ask anyone who is thinking about lighting a fire in these windy conditions to re-consider."
Inspector Sullivan said inquiries into the fire are continuing.
