Both local grades managed to finish with wins to stay on top of the leader board.
Reserve grade continued their winning form by slamming their opponents 8-1. The Wallis Lake side are currently unbeaten in all 12 games and have averaged seven goals a game in the last month.
Hat-ricks by Chris Richards and Ethan Perry gave Wingham little hope and the solid defensive work by Sam Ravell earned him man of the match.
With 10 places between Wallis Lake and Wingham on the first grade ladder, plenty were thinking this game would be a one-sided affair but the Warriors turned up prepared and eager to secure an upset.
Wallis Lake were keen to impress and from the start dominated play across the pitch with a quality display of their passing game and fast attacking style.
Within 15 minutes, the home side took the lead after striker Peter Masterantonio turned to beat his defender on the edge of the penalty box and tucked his shot inside the bottom corner.
Wallis Lake continued to keep the ball off their opponents and the match went in to half time at 1-0.
Coach Herb Klemperer was happy with teams’ performance but was concerned about the ne goal lead. He urged his team to step up the attack in the final third of the field.
Klemperer’s concerns were realised shortly after the restart as a counter attack by Wingham saw a long ball find the Warriors striker with his shot deflecting off another Wingham player and into the goal.
Wallis Lake reacted positively and continued possession with more attacking play particularly down the edges and utilising the speed of midfielders Mitch Yarnold and Louis Ponte.
Central midfielder Ryan Folkes found space to run with 20 minutes to play and provided a delicate chip over the Wingham defensive line for Masterantonio to run on to.
The striker lofted his shot over the Warriors goal keeper to put his team back in front.
Blake Barnes Riddell came off the bench to provide some stability in the Wallis Lake midfield and with his first involvement he put the game beyond reach for Wingham.
At 3-1, Wallis Lake kept to their game plan, limited any chance for Wingham to score and finished the game as the deserving winners.
Their response to conceding goals and ability to create and finish at the other end is a positive factor at this time of the season.
Stopper Paul Chipperfield was awarded man of the match after his hard work in defence.
The sides face a tough assignment next week as they travel to Kempsey to take on the Macleay Valley Rangers. Wallis Lake have only had one win on the Rangers home turf in recent times and hope to secure some points away from home.
