As tourists and residents emerged this morning (Thursday April 17), they discovered car after car parked on the street in front of unit blocks had been savagely kicked, leaving sandy boot prints and dents of varying sizes.
“In Dubbo, we’ve had our share of problems with anti-social behaviour so they put cameras in the main street – some real and some fake – but it cut down on the problem."

Regular holiday-makers were surprised and disappointed by the senseless attacks on the cars. The Advocate spoke to cars’ owners on the street this morning and no one had heard anything last night. They speculated it must have occurred in the early hours of the morning.
George Ford from Chipping Norton discovered his son Mitchell’s car, a ute, had been dented during the night when he came out for breakfast. He has been staying here for 20 years and said he had never had anything like this happen.
It was the same for visitor Wayne Stone from Werombi who had his 4WD and his daughter’s car dented by kicks. He has been staying here every year for the last six years.
John Smith from Dubbo, a regular visitor whose car was also damaged, contacted Great Lakes Council as well as the police to raise his concerns about the incident.
“This isn’t just a police problem. It’s a whole of community problem,” he said.
“In Dubbo, we’ve had our share of problems with anti-social behaviour so they put cameras in the main street – some real and some fake – but it cut down on the problem,” he said.
For resident Sharyn Murray, these kinds of incidents are not just a school holiday concern. While her car, safe in an underground car park last night, was unharmed, a car belonging to her visiting daughter was damaged.
“I’ve lived here four weeks and already one of my neighbours has had his jet-ski seat and trailer tyres slashed. The same night there was crockery smashed all over the street,” she said.
Ms Murray said she would like to see police patrols in the area in the early hours of the morning to prevent incidents such as this one.
Police were expected to attend the scene at about 10am.
