Sexual assaults in Great Lakes trended up by 73 per cent between January 2012 and December 2013. In 2013, there were 45 sexual assaults reported in the area.
The numbers of break and enters into premises that were not homes also rose almost 20 per cent, up to 142 incidents in 2013, while there were 83 thefts of vehicles in 2013, reflecting a 40 per cent increase in that crime.
While the numbers of break and enters into commercial and government premises rose, the numbers of home robberies stayed steady at a much higher level, with more than 200 incidents recorded around the shire in both 2012 and 2013.
All other areas of major crimes remained steady in the local area, while the Mid North Coast recorded a down-turn in assaults by more than 10 per cent.
State-wide, sexual assaults were on the rise over a long period. From 1990 to 2013, BOCSAR recorded a 125 per cent increase in this area, while other sexual offences almost doubled (95 per cent increase over the same period).
A rise in fraud cases across NSW has been attributed mainly to the unauthorised use of credit cards.
