The annual Youth Week event, now in its ninth year, attracted skaters from as far as Sydney to vie for the title, but there was plenty of local talent on show, taking home many of the top prizes.
While spectator numbers were down on previous years, organiser Briony Joyce of Homebase Youth Services said the event continues to be a great success.
“It is put on to show the community how awesome young people are and they prove it every single year,” she said.

- Organiser from Homebase Youth Services, Briony Joyce.
“It shows how worth while it is to have the skate park there, seeing the talent that is coming out of it.”
Highlights of the day, including the spectacle of the event itself, were the free skate periods, when anyone could show off their moves and a conga line of scooter riders around the skate park.
The day’s MCs were Briony and former BMX competition winner Mitchell Codey, while tunes were provided by DJ Coen Ridgeway.
Briony said she hoped next year, which marks 10 years of the event, will attract more families along for the drug and alcohol free event.
“This year’s competitors have already been on Facebook talking about next year, so we hope next year will be huge,” she said.
Local businesses donated prizes for the event, while Club Forster donated $2500 to its running costs.
