FOURTEEN local bodyboarders travelled down to the Central Coast recently for a coaching and skills clinic run by two renowned bodyboarders.
Club winners from last year’s A and AA divisions and a handful of other members joined renowned bodyboarders and coaches Heydon ‘Da Boogie Man’ Bunting and Nick Rushton for the clinic on March 15.
The morning session was a little slow but gave coaches an opportunity to watch all riders and help them with their techniques in smaller conditions.
Forster Tuncurry Bodyboard Association (FTBA) president Aaron Dodds travelled down with the group of youngsters last month and said it was a great opportunity for them to learn from some of the best in the business.
“Everyone surfed well and all in all the boys learnt from the wise,” Dodds said.
Dodds said the coaches reinforced key points such as pocket riding, rail control and the correct boards to ride.
Free youth clinic
FTBA will be hosting a free Boogie Youth development and coaching clinic next month for young Indigenous people and those at risk in the Great Lakes and Manning Valley.
Those who take part will be mentored by experienced coaches Heydon ‘da boogie man’ Bunting, Adam Cheers and Matthew McArthur.
FTBA president Aaaron Dodds said the clinic’s aim is to inspire and motivate Indigenous youth and those at risk and to provide surf awareness, development and support.
The clinic will be held in Tuncurry on May 3 from 7am to 4pm and is supported by Homebase Youth Services and the Bright Youth Foundation.
The day will include a breakfast, a first aid skills class, three surfing lessons, lunch, a yoga class, and inspirational talks from local business operators, photographers and surf coaches.
The day can cater for up to 50 youths. For more information phone Homebase Youth Services in Tuncurry on 6555 5622 or email Info@ftba.org.au
