Appeal provides comfort for family

ORGANISERS of the Tabba and Maddy Garay Appeal have expressed gratitude to those who’ve donated following Tabitha’s funeral on August 3.

“It was a lovely ceremony, but obviously it was terribly sad,” a friend of the family reported.

Ten-year-old Tabitha Garay was killed on July 9 when a car driven by her grandmother Jane Garay, left Coomba Road and collided with a tree.

Jane later died at John Hunter Hospital where 12-year-old Madelyn was also taken before later being transferred to Westmead Children’s Hospital.

“Maddy is doing well, she’s still in the Intensive Care Unit fighting infections and things like that but her condition is much improved.”

The funds raised so far have allowed Madelyn’s parents Melanie and Simon to remain by her bedside.

“Simon is a builder and he’s self-employed, so being unable to work the costs have built up which is what the appeal is for, so they can cover and stay on top of the mortgage and things like that.”

Organisers of the appeal are currently planning a large trivia night fundraiser at Castle Hill RSL Club on September 22.
