Great Lakes Councillor Linda Gill makes no apologies for walking out of a meeting with Shadow Minister for Climate Greg Hunt and Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin on Monday, but said her outburst was not personal or politically motivated.
“I feel I stood up for future generations and I make no apology for that,” Cr Gill said.
Cr Gill also refuted suggestions made by Mr Baldwin that her actions were motivated by the upcoming local government elections.
“I don’t want to be out there,” Cr Gill said. “My anger was more in frustration at the way this issue (carbon pricing) has become a political football when it should be treated by all parties as the extremely important issue that it is, particularly by a first world government.
“Whether I support the government or not, at least with this (carbon tax) they are doing something, they are making a move. Someone has to take accountability on this and think about the world we are leaving for our children.”
