THE Bulahdelah community is in shock after learning that their resident doctor is now involved in a practice at Newington in the Sydney Metropolitan area.
Dr Habashy has been on sick leave since late last year. He has been in practice there for over 20 years and is believed to still have his belongings at the residence.
The Bulahdelah Hospital Auxiliary is organizing an emergency meeting with Great Lakes Council’s mayor and general manager to discuss the situation.
State Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead has also expressed his extreme disappointment after learning that the doctor is working in Sydney.
Mr Bromhead said that if these allegations are correct, Dr Habashy has let the community of Bulahdelah down with his decision to abandon the residents of Bulahdelah, after they have supported his practice for over 20 years.
Mr Bromhead said although it is Dr Habashy's prerogative to conduct his practice where he chooses, it is extremely disappointing to the residents of Bulahdelah, that he has misled the residents after indicating that he would return to the town after his recovery from surgery, said Mr Bromhead.
Mr Bromhead said he has advised Hunter New England Health of the situation with Doctor Habashy and that he will continue to work closely with Hunter New England Health to find a permanent doctor for Bulahdelah residents.
