Attending the conference were 1200 delegates from 50 nations around the world.
Some of the topics addressed during the conference included Indigenous land and sea management practices, caring for our country, working on country and cultural protocols.
Upon arrival in Darwin Elvina, Rob and Mick caught up with Darwin Aboriginal hosts of the Larrakia Nation and presented them with a number of calendars supplied by Forster Neighbourhood Centre. The calendars portrayed some aspects of the Worimi Aboriginal community.
The Larrakia community welcomed not only Forster delegates but all those who attended.
The climate in Darwin was an obvious change to that in Forster and shorts and t-shirts were necessity.
Melissa George, co-chair of the WIN National Advisory Group and Chaske Spencer were the conference MCs. Chaske told delegates his traditional country in Canada was chosen to film the TV drama series “Twilight”.
Delegates also had an opportunity to visit the famous Mindil Beach Markets and experience the multicultural smorgasbord of food, music, fashion and in general speaking with people.
Each day during the WIN Conference delegates were offered workshops to attend.
The workshops covered a multitude of topics including, technological advances in cultural interpretations, political legislation and reform under the United Nations, how indigenous nations manage biodiversity, Indigenous networking and dance, art and cultural activities.
